Pride and Joy (Runaways)

I picked this up this afternoon in Forbidden Planet since it was, cheap, written by Brian K Vaughan (Y:The Last Man and Deus Ex Machine which are both very good), and I had vague memory if reading that Joss Whedon was going to be taking it over soon.

An hour later, I'm done and yes it's a most amusing book. The basic setup is simple, a group of teenagers discover that when their parents get together in private to sort out their charitable donations they are actually planning their super-villain activities and sacrificing a young girl. Well whose parents haven't, eh? So the kids end up on the run, framed for a murder they didn't commit and pursued by their parents and everyone they have influence over.

At this point I looked on Amazon for when the other volumes came out and discovered that they've actually just released the first 7 volumes (i.e. almost everything) in two hardbacks. Which probably explains why this edition was reduced in the first place. Oh well, in a week I'll be able to catch all the way up.
