Taipei Day 5 - Will I get home?
So I'm now sitting in CKS International airport at the gate. We should have been boarding 10 minutes ago, however the flight has been delayed for 45 minutes - I think due to bad weather at Hong Kong going by the announcements at check-in about some earlier flights. Now I only had 75 minutes to make my transfer at Hong Kong in the first place so I'm a little bit worried as to whether I'm going to get back on-time.
I asked a helpful looking employee about this and he said that they would sort things out for me - which presumably means hold the plane if necessary - although presumably there's a limit to how long they will do this for so let's hope there's no further delay.
So doing a WLAN scan turned up this paid for service from Chunghwa Telecom (there's a free service back in the departure loung but I'm not leaving the gate now). It's $1 per minute - but that's a little under 2 pence so I think I can afford it.
We left early to get to the airport due to the potential for rush hour traffic. I was getting a lift from the project manager, Jon, and his lovely wife (a big fan of Paris which she's visited twice and Italy) and in the end it only took a bit over an hour which is pretty normal. The rain is still throwing it down - I'm not sure it has stopped since last night - but it does have this tendency to start suddenly and stop suddenly and come down very hard in between. So just for a change maybe I'll be leaving a rainy country and coming back to a sunny Britain?
It'll probably still be colder though.
